The Oldest Living Things

“The redwoods, once seen, leave a mark or create a vision that stays with you always. No one has ever successfully painted or photographed a redwood tree. The feeling they produce is not transferable. From them comes silence and awe. It’s not only their unbelievable stature, nor the color which seems to shift and vary under your eyes, no, they are not like any trees we know, they are ambassadors from another time. “ - John Steinbeck

I took a trip to shoot in the Sequoias during the summer of 2019. I felt inspired after reading “The Hidden Life of Trees” by Peter Wohlleben. His findings are that the entire forest is a super organism and that it survives and thrives as one large mass. An ecosystem not based on the individual, but the totality of the forest family. The forest’s sophisticated existence struck me as a metaphor, they are truly “ambassadors from another time”.
